“Chalk the Block ” Art Festival is a free three-day street painting event. More than 300 artists will spend hours painting and chalking the streets transforming the Riverwoods into a chalk mural buffet. This year, as in last year, students battled the rain to create their mural. This year’s theme was everyday heroes and Joan of Arc was my team’s theme. The organizers said that “the event would go on rain or shine.” The artists are responsible for protecting their chalk art, some other teams didn’t use plastic drapes as was needed and their work succumbed to the elements.
Two year’s ago my students took 2nd place overall in the popular vote…I’m waiting to hear the results of how this year’s team fared.
